The Green Homes Grants: Bringing solar energy back to apartment dwellers

There has been considerable buzz around the newly launched Green Homes Grant (‘GHG’) programme. Under the GHG, the UK Government is providing vouchers for up to £5000 per residence or up to two third’s of the cost of projects which improve the energy consumption and carbon emissions of residences across England. Notably, the programme includes solar thermal energy systems in its list of primary measures, making it the best way to reduce the up-front cost of solar energy systems in the residential sector.

Since the end of the Feed-In-Tariff for solar PV at the beginning of 2020, businesses and landlords have been finding renewed interest in solar thermal energy systems, like VirtuHOT. In the UK domestic sector, 84% of all energy consumption is used for heat. In multi-dwelling apartments, a VirtuHOT system is especially well-suited to reducing hot water energy consumption, which itself accounts for 20% of overall heat demand.

VirtuHOT is specifically optimised for flat roof buildings, and is exceptionally well-suited to multi-dwelling apartments with centralised hot water heating systems. Naked Energy is actively looking to work with multi-dwelling landlords of apartments who are keen to reduce their energy bills and improve their EPC scores under the forthcoming SAP10.

The GHG programme closes on 31 March 2021, when the last systems to be admitted to the programme will need to be commissioned. If you’d like to learn more about how a VirtuHOT solar thermal system can contribute to the energy, carbon and economic goals of your business, don’t hesitate to contact a Naked Energy Solutions Engineer on commercial@nakedenergy.co.uk.
